Sam Nitz I have been playing rugby since I was 6 years old, graduating through the age groups playing second row and back row. The pinnacle being a stint with Waikato U15s way back in 1985. For the last 8 years I have been playing for Westbury RFC, for the 2nds, 1sts and now the Vets.

My coaching career started at University in NZ where I coached the Tractor’s (we ere a team from the agricultural faculty) for 2 years.
For the past 4 years I have been introducing tag rugby to the local school’s and now take an after-school session on Tuesday afternoon at Leighton for Years 3 & 4.

We are in the building process of getting the Junior section going at the club and this is the future of our club. I enjoy working with the kids and introducing the wonders of the game of rugby to them.

Hope to see your children up at the club and playing for our senior teams in the future.

Steve Edwards I was due to start playing rugby at the age of 7 but broke my arm on a climbing frame a week before I was due to start so didn’t actually start playing until I reached secondary school at the age of 11.

My playing carer has always been a bit stop start mostly due to injuries which is why now I am heavily involved in coaching. After playing for Westbury for 4 years I thought it was about time to give something back to the club and start to be positive about developing the youth set up.

The club have been very supportive and have put me through the initial tag course and also my first steps to coaching by sending me away to do my level 1.

By reaching this first level it has enabled me to assist in helping the club coach in coaching the senior sides and generating valuable experience to move on to do my level 2 course.

So we all hope to see you at Leighton sports centre to introduce you to the wonderful game of RUGBY.

Mike Corteen I have been with Westbury RFC for the past 10 years. I started playing rugby at secondary school aged 11 and joined westbury when the youth team was re-introduced to the club at U15 rising up to the colts before turning 17 and moving into senior rugby playing for the seconds.

I have struggled with knee injuries in recent years and have had two operations in the last year to repair various damage. I was hopeful of playing this season and even took over as the captain of the seconds but suffered a pre season set back and have been unable to play since.

I want to help invest in the clubs future so have joined the mini section and completed a coaching course to help teach tag rugby and help ensure that the club progresses from the ground up.
